Two of my Craftsman ratchets won’t keep a socket on. The ball thingy is stuck in there and the button is stuck down too. Took it apart, but can’t find a way to loosen the ball and button.

Don't even try. It's craftsman. Drive it back to Sears and get a replacement, no questions asked.

A quick soak in Kroil or similar should free them.
Otherwise run em back to Sears As Steve said.

For future reference, when you’re not claiming on a warranty, sounds to me like it all needs a good clean. Soak it in kerosene (or similar, white spirit should do) to dissolve the greasy grime. Then wash it off with detergent and a selection of brushes to get into all the crevices. Then re-grease and expect to repeat the process eventually.

I’ll try cleaning it first see how it does.

Soaked it over night in PB blaster, then heated it up, hit it with a hammer, and washed it off. Works like new. Had quite a bit of rust come out the ball. Oiled it and put wheel bearing grease in the ratchet, which makes a world of difference.

“hit it with a hammer”
Can’t fix anything without doing that at some stage :)
